A non-governmental organisation, Africare, has advised residents of Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State to always keep their environment clean as a simple preventive measure against malaria.

The organisation said by taking such simple preventive measures, including using long-lasting mosquito nets, the residents would save themselves from unnecessary spending on malaria treatment.

Africare, in a statement on Thursday, quoted one of its representatives, Mr. Patrick Adah, as telling residents of Ibeju-Lekki this during a recent house-to-house enlightenment talk on malaria it organised in the communities.

The initiative, sponsored by Chevron Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, was aimed at stemming incidents of malaria in the communities under Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area through public enlightenment.

Adah described malaria as “a deadly scourge threatening the people of Africa;” and urged the residents to “always adhere to the rules and regulations of clean and healthy environment.”

Africare added that the house-to-house campaign was its way of wrapping up the enlightenment project it embarked upon in Ibeju-Lekki since last October.
